The Soldiers Cry

The Soldiers Cry

By

Jose M. Euvin

Hold your soldiers hand

Hold them close to your heart

Watch them as they march away

As the time come’s for them to part

You cried when he went away

You held the children tight

“Daddies working late”

“He wont be home tonight…”

Many nights you cried alone

You held his pillow tight

Wishing he would walk in through that door

And stop your lonely cry

The children asked for their father

They were too young to call him “Dad”

He never met his youngest daughter

A faint memory’s all he has

With every call you got excited

His one day close to coming home

And then you got the letter

Sorry, your husband….

“Why did they take him away…?”

I really related to this. My husband was in the Navy 22 years and we were together 19 of them. I raised three kids with him gone a large part of the time.

You cried when he went away

You held the children tight

"Daddy's just working late"

"He wont be home tonight"

Many nights you cried alone

You held his pillow tight

Wishing he would walk in through that door

And stop your lonely cry

I have done the above one too many times. Gary was in Desert Shield and the Persian Gulf war. I remember during Desert Shield the kids asking, "Will Daddy Come Home?" There were no easy answers during that time. One time we just sat on the couch and cried together. Thank God, he did come home, but for some that never happens.

Thanks for the honest and forth right write. God Bless! Carole

A very sad piece. Its always hard to leave those you love behind. My father was Navy and I felt firsthand the pain of knowing I wouldn't see him for long periods of time. You've captured that here.

Hey One, good sentiments on the plague of war, it is never pleasant, not for anyone, especially when you have to leave children behind, it is devastating for all concerned, heart wrenching and all for what? is my question, there is no legitimate answer to this, I know and am convinced.

This is really good, and very touching! I hurt for those soliders who have to leave there family. My cousin is in Iraq and his mom, my aunt, has cancer. & whenever i talk to him, he tells me how much he hates the fact that hes not able to be their for his mom through all of her pain. This is a very good piece!

As a soldier, you hit the nail right on the head. I have watched multiple family members say good bye to their beloved soldiers and my family has had to say good bye to me twice before and it never gets easy. I think you have summed it up in so many words.

Thank you...from a soldier.

This was truly a sad piece. But there is nothing fun about war... ever.
