Black is a Contradictory Colour

Black is a Contradictory Colour

A Poem by T.Y.N.P.

When the weight of the world

is thrust

on your brittle shoulders alone

it is hard to wake up and feel

like it is easy to carry on.

In those moments it is easy

to describe

in detail

what exactly a dark cloud is.

At the very same time

it is

a hurricane,

and the still surface of a pond,

so light you feel

you could whisper and watch

it ride away on a gust of wind,

and so heavy it hurts

your chest when you breathe.

At the very same time

it is

full of emptiness, and

a cascading cacophony

of screaming silence,

crushing, squeezing,

and then bloated, brimming,

ready to explode,

at a single touch.

At the very same time

you are both

the oak and the reed

and you do not know

which is worse.
