the beauty of nothing

the beauty of nothing

A Poem by chris hoagland

i would wake up
never smelling the flowers
but hiding in the shadows
never with the monsters i had met or the creatures id seen
with knives and blades they marked their fate but i sat alone near the edge
on the cusp of edging my way toward life

i grabbed a pen and paper
and wrote
and wrote
i never thought of it
until i left a paper somewhere
and oneday heard
"that was beautiful"
i wrote of life
the life i never had
the beauty in a single picture
the beauty of the faces no one noticed
the windows to the sole and passion
you never think about it
but you can write wonders with it
limit is but an imagination
there is beauty in you and beauty in the world
the way the water curls when falling and how the lava bubbles at its surface
the genus with a paint brush and the one with the pen are both making worlds
there is beauty in everything
it takes someone special to see the beauty in nothing
