"And Now The Glaciers Melt..."

"And Now The Glaciers Melt..."

A Poem by Chris
"

A Thursday Thought again

"

“And Now The Glaciers Melt…”

I remember Mission beach at sunsets…

...and Virginia Beach... Beaufort,

the Atlantic City boardwalk…

and a world of other places - other times…

Norwegian fjords,

Rotterdam quays,

Rhodes, Cigle, Istanbul

Japan, England, Portugal…

Hands I’ve held

and those I couldn’t,

wishes and kisses -

given and taken.

H’lo’s and goodbyes,

People...mindshots of captured breaths

and so many, many faces.

All the sounds I missed and those I couldn’t.

I’ve lived and died by inches -

the hurts so deep God cried…

love so deep - I cried…

and days I made a difference.

Chris

Sounds like a full life, well lived.

An honor to read and get to share in your perspective. The journeys we take in life, the people we cross paths with or even share paths with for periods of time... Every moment or opportunity missed and every one seized and savored... I just got to visit them all. Thank you. You make a difference every day with your gifts.

The lines above I liked. Old age had brought me to a distance from a good life. Looking back at travels, wild places and deeds. We wished we knew it wouldn't end. I like the places and thoughts in the poem. The ending made the poem complete. Thank you for outstanding poetry.

Coyote - its good seeing you, thanks for the pause and thoughts
Love this. The metaphor of glaciers -the way they change the landscape - so well analogous to the way one life changes the landscape of another. That's beautiful.

GÁfternoon to you Ken... how's life?
People come and go in the course of life’s journey- some may have left permanent marks on us while other are just fleeting acquaintances. But what is also significant is the difference we made to others.

It's a beautiful poem Chris. Where we have been, who we have known have shaped us and we even in small ways have left something behind of ourselves and we have shaped them. There is beauty and sadness intertwined throughout your words, but that reflects the life we live for no life is without its joy and its strife.

Nicely done. I keep thinking about all the many faces lately, how they had up and wondering how high the pile will be by the time that I am done here. It astounds me the numbers I have now, what would it be like to be my grandmother's age?
The faces and the hellos and goodbyes parts of this poem are what stuck out to me the most, perhaps because they are so easily relatable.
Wonderful job
