"Who You Are..."

"Who You Are..."

A Poem by Chris
"

a pause

"

Discovered you really do have opinions yet?  Had any seriously "deep" thoughts and perhaps have had and made some "profound" self-discoveries?

“Who You Are…”

Do you like dollar-ninety-five words

and look out upon caerulean skies?

Mirrored, mirrored walls so high

Glistening, gleaming into the skies

‘til up above my head so sleek

their falling tears meander down my cheeks…

I thought and knew me most of all

Are you as PC as the wynds that

whisper so changingly,

delightedly deceit-full and

memorabilia-less to each foot's passage

tween always was and ne're-to-be(s)?

-  die healthy or eat food?  -

Know the difference or

KNOW the differences?

- know at all -

…know-it-all

Do you hear the music

…or listen? and to what?

Whom? - even yourself?

Whys can be

what could be

but when - now that's a question even

self-colored horses can't answer

…Oz always is tomorrow from where

I fall asleep

and I stand - doing - in a yesterday

that hasn't ever happened yet - go figure.

Know the artist,

see your self

or dream the life

or dream life

or dream of life…

perchance just to dream.

Have talk to walk?

Or is the low-crawl the best?

Questions even the military live by.

People to see and things to do -

places, places everywhere

but not a place to be…

and yet

THIS…

IS

what my tomorrow was like

and how will yours be?

…ya think?

Who are you?

The contrast between flowing stanzas ("Mirrored, mirrored... down my cheeks") and the more pithy, emphatic language ("Have talk... live by") is amazing in this poem. Its almost reflective of what self-knowledge is all about, sometimes found in lengthy self-reflection and other times in terse, sudden realizations. As a whole, the work is very poignant and deep, but almost playful in a way. Somewhere between jeering and deeply questioning, and I love it for that. Really nice work here, and a very deep subject matter to boot!

I appreciate your pause, come by anytime.
yes "know thyself" and "to thine own self be true" from ponderers of old ..and the truth remains how important it is to be brutally honest and know ourselves ... makes me think of those that replace the "journey" with ambitious goals ... or some other wondering ..how the knocking must be like buzzing gnats for them ..until we all must answer the call or go down in ignorance ... your poem has put me on a philosophical pondering ...perhaps my own knowing needs tweeking ;)

holy canoli Chris! I don't know at all I can tell you that much right now, your poem has me pondering now why am I? I guess a totally different question but one leads to the next. Amazing words plucked from where I don't know because they were placed together so perfectly I can't even explain. To express what is that is in your makeup in so many words to most would be an impossibility...but you have done so with finesse. Well done!!

I think you've outdone youself in this one, Chris. The most fundamental, ceaseless questions that we keep asking ourselves all the time, and will continue to do so till the end of our time: Who am I? You've created a masterpiece of creativity through this, Chris, and I'm glad you shared this with us. Thank you.

Good morning Jane... I hope you stop by and share some coffee and thoughts.
An extremely good question. Does anyone ever really know the answer? Are we stagnant or ever changing making the answer transitional? I like this. It breathes.

seems there are answers out here but few really ask the questions...
The questions! I love this.
