True False Idols

True False Idols

A Poem by Lovecraft
"

Myth and Reality...

"
Vast are the gulfs where the Angels dwell
Where matter has no true form,
And lies come down from above,
Waiting to be expelled without doubt.
Vast is the pit in which He dwells,
 His name echoing Lightbringer.
Wrath and Pride has consumed thee, my Son,
But you may yet redeem thyself again.
He brings forth both Light and Dark, Love and Hate.
The Duality of Gaia and her Home, Mother Earth.
Soon shall it shatter into nothingness like the great Voids.

It may seem slightly vague, so I'd like you to attempt to "Decode" it, I guess. Just let me know if it is any good, lol. I also wrote this rather quickly FYI.

Trying to express what i understood,it tells about the journey of life....in which we hav to witness darkness and light....but at the end love and brightness outshines everything......and also we come from this brightness and we return back to it!...fan of your work!...keep it up

Your interpretation is mostly correct but I did intend for it to be open to different interpretation.. read more

The duality of this poem, marked with black and white contrast, is done with a devilish stroke... Loved the Gaia line. As well as love and hate being compared to light and dark, a classic done in excellent form... Darkly penned...

Yet sadly... Abstract guidelines are usually less appreciated than blatant handrails...
bit abstract maybe?
but it definitely feels like those made of characters we worship, but shouldn't

Thanks. Yes, it is somewhat abstract and lends itself to interpretation but I like it like that. :)
I found this very thought provoking...i liked the contrast of being between the angels and the devil, inevitably we all become one with energy. ..thats was my interpretation ...excellent!

Thanks. I left this open to interpretation, both literal and figurative. :)

To me this suggests that there's a lack of belief in the Christian faith. I don't think it's a far reach, considering some of your other writings.. I may see less. I may get caught up in some references. But I'll do my best to "decode" it.

The gulf, if I'm not terribly mistaken, is something deep in the earth. A chasm or abyss. Certainly no place (Stereo-typically) for angels unless they've chosen it. Angels here seem to symbolize what once was hopeful. Now, with truth, the hope is gone and all is seen as deceit.
And now one who's found his home in a pit. One that was once the epitome of hope. Redemption will come when all else ends.

This felt a lot like a story, and I enjoyed it a lot. Your poetry is just vague enough to make me feel like I'm taking a stab in the dark. Yet with vivid enough imagery to make me feel like there's a chance. Great poem, and again, well done.

I love the themes here :) I wouldn't call it vague though, I'd say it's well written but subtly dark. Am I right on thinking it's your personal commentary on religion?

The above lines. I could write a epic tale from. Thank you Lovecraft for sharing the excellent poetry.
