The Alamo

The Alamo

A Poem by Carrie Montgomery

The story of the Alamo is quite a tale

forever etched in our minds

with 189 heroes that were brutally left behind

William Barret Travis, he was the first to fall

he gave his twenty six years of life, defending that North wall

James Bowie was down when he bled

laying with pneumonia on his sickbed

Davy Crockett found dead on the West side

...the men lost were all heroes , and Texas cried

General Antonio Lopez lost men as well

at the battle of the Alamo, or was it hell?

Over two thousand men gave their lives that day

at the command of El Generalissimo, just an hombre

General Santa Anna as a coward did flee

disguised as a peasant, but captured was he

The independence of Texas was hard fought and won

by men standing their ground and taking action

yes, the story of the Alamo is quite a tale

it shall be remembered forever without fail

a bitter bloody battle that made history

it shall not be forgotten, especially by me.
