Catch Rope

Catch Rope

A Poem by CowgirlOnCoffee

Blood rushes through his veins
Fueling his fire
Feeding his fear
Legs used to gallop for miles and miles wide
Across the hot dry country
Strike as he fights for his freedom
Teeth bared, nostrils flared
He lunges at the iron rails
Instinct feeding his flight
Sweat pours freely
Dust makes it harder for the man to see
As he winds his rope in his hand
Getting a feel through his glove
"Easy mate. You and me, we're gonna be alright."
The voice spurs the Brumby on
Leaping at the rails once again
A flick of the wrist
Years of knowledge in his hands
Love for the beast in his heart
The rope connects them
As it sails over the colts head
And tightens around his neck
The fight continues
Long into the day.
