The Contract

The Contract

A Poem by Deandra Dawn

The Contract

To forgive you would be an
obsequious advance
on my dormant admission
of guilt
a jubilant betrayal
of my web of emotions
weaved out of an
indisputable arrangement
of contentment
marked with conceit
deceiving the essential
luster of the mind's
most reliable revelations
one must tuck these away
into a vault
safely hidden from
public scrutiny
a steady hand wielding the pen to
sign off
on an undeniable
revocation of self
a preternatural amusement
of those standing by in silence
a contract, if you will
entered into aimlessly
portraying your
weakness
No.
Forgiveness in this instant is
unjust
markedly unnatural
a phenomenon of lies
twisted into
regret
set to lines
signature NOT accepted

The dramatic interpretation that screamed its way into my head, Phantom of The Opera. Half of this could have been dialog, the other is like a spiral of Christine Daaé, no wonder the lyrics, 'think of me, think of me kindly when we say good bye' , but those last eight lines. That had a great dramatic effect.

Dramatic verse...you harvest your words well...picking choice, ripe thoughts.
Enjoyed it.

I felt you throughout this piece..the voice, the rhythm, the relationship..all screaming off the page. Sometimes, forgiveness is simply not acceptable when one is in the right.

You have to love the drama of a twisted relationship that creates a tangle of emotions. I love the last line signature not accepted. That says it all.
