Storm

Storm

A Poem by Giullia King

She feels the walls caving in,
she takes a look in the mirror,
disgusted by what she sees.
"I wish I was braver,
prettier,
...more like her."
She says shivering.
No one seems to understand her.
Her mind wants to find home.
She is like a shadow in this world.
A chapter of her soul, no one has read yet.
A lonely soul that's allergic to other people.
They affect her too much.
She keeps wandering off to greater places.
So unhappily in love with another world.
A world where she belongs.
So, alone she sits in the dark.
Dreaming away to a place where the stars shine brightly for her.
...
Sadness hits her like a knife in the back at 3am.
She takes a steaming, hot shower trying desperately to scrub off all the bad voices.
Her head is a storm.
She has forgotten the passion she used to have for life,
her personality has become a burden.
She feels the water dripping on her skin like acid.
She turns off the shower and takes a deep breath.
...

Very powerful, intensely written. Your words show how our minds when driven by fear can create painful images that we start believing in. Once we become panic stricken we lose our capabilities to hold on. Your poem touches on all these effects and lets us feel for a moment what the narrator is going through. Excellent work.

Amazing review, Richie. So accurate. Thank you so much for reading :)
Her personality had become a burden, you say. I read that it had become broken. Interesting. That's how I felt in this reading. I think I've realized this about myself several times in life. Maybe everyone goes there several times(?) I never liked the 'this too shall pass' attitude because it holds no remedy in it for the suffering of 'now' and seams unsympathetic. I always wanted hear, 'wow. This is terrible! I'm sorry you're going through it'! Yet, it seems few can find these words to speak to another hurting soul. Just my thoughts :) Isabella.

Yes, broken is a good word to describe it too.
For me, "this too shall pass" feels like soot.. read more

That's true :) Thank you, lovely!
I liked the honest tone and realistic feel of the words.
"She has forgotten the passion she used to have for life,
her personality has become a burden.
She feels the water dripping on her skin like acid.
She turns off the shower and takes a deep breath."
The above lines. Lonely place to know and hard place to rise from. Thank you Gullia for sharing the powerful words and poetry.

You've expressed your many feelings in such a beautiful way in this poem, which, I guess, most people can only think of doing. The last two lines are magnificent; they kinda stole my heart away. The title is alluring as well. Great write!

It was a pleasure to read this. ☺
My breath stopped when I read this! It's easy to say this too shall pass but those moments when you are going through this is like hell.

"A chapter of her soul, no one has read yet.
A lonely soul that's allergic to other people."

These lines, I liked the best. Allergic is the word alright. Defines clearly how I feel too!
I feel more dark pieces on the way coming from you, Gullia! Deep write.
