Days End

Days End

A Poem by Joshua Carl Cruz

At my days end
when
nothing is left
but
to settle in...
I
take off my shoes
and
bake banana bread.
Drink
ing chamomile
by
a window sill
I
sip my wet leaves.
Dream,
my daydreams.
I
stand by the win
dow
when it rains so,
I
always end up thinking
of you.
take
my
naps.
I
play
my
tracks.
I
eat
my
meals.
drink
my
fill,
and
always end up thinking
of you
continue my life.
bake,
and
write,
and
I
always end up thinking
of you.
stand by the win
dow
when it rains so,
my tears
inadvertently roll
down my face...
Why do I
always end up crying
when it rains?

i really like this...i like the form and flow as well as the description of routines at the end of the day when love has gone or there has been some form of loss...i watched my dad build routines after my mom passed and for thirteen years he never wavered: sipping tea, baking, listening to music, napping, daydreaming...it appears that i, too, have many of these routines... nicely-done
