An Adoring Rose

An Adoring Rose

A Poem by Kay

I would cut my stem and unroot myself from the earth
to be loved by you for even a few days.
I would be a reminder of romance to warm your heart,
and drop petals to applaud the beauty of your face.
I would stand erect in confined vases with nowhere to sway,
happy to be trapped closely in your gaze.
I would drown in the water you pour to keep me alive,
soak up immortality so I might be with you always.
I would pray with every withering curl of my leaves,
that I still delight you with a passion so grand.
I would welcome my moment of death into debris,
just for that brief feeling of being held in your hand.

Lovely, your metaphors hold the meaning delicately. I would question the price to you personally. If you willingly Uproot yourself or lay in debris for an experience.

Just came from "Across the Bridge of Memory," and while this piece is much 'simpler' in writing style than that one, it's just as lovely. The rhymes were melodic and refreshing (as in they're atypical/uncommon choices), and the rose theme of the poem was clever. From the first line to end, I soaked up every word and gesture as I felt the rose to be conveying. Again, uniquely beautiful phrasing without being flowery. ;)
Seriously though, I really really enjoyed this poem, the romantic element is not overdone in any cliche manner, even with lines like "applaud the beauty of your face" which reminds me of some victorian period, and yet, comes across without being corny or stiff.
