A Better World

A Better World

A Poem by Leslie Philibert

China will be declared part of the Peoples Republic of Tibet ; Somalia will send
food parcels to the Swiss and the Mexicans will build a fence to prevent illegal
immigration from the United States. There will be a Queen in Saudia Arabia and
P***y Riot will be elected to the Duma. The Taliban will build a church in Kabul
and invite the Pope and his wife to open it. Fast food will slow down ; the Israelis
will paint their nuclear weapons gay pink and ship them to Iran , North Korea will
be renamed Happyville.A clown will be named President of the World Bank and
North Africa wll accept refugees from Europe.

Facebook will discover that friends are real people,my sons might understand that
my car needs petrol and my wife will stop buying shoes.

And if you thought that poetry can`t change anything, you are right.
But it`s worth a try, isn`t it ?

Leslie, I'm entertained! And who knows, what you have written might come true! I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to get rid of their boredom.

P.S. I want to see pink nuclear weapons. :)

Brilliant work. The humor and irony were well depicted. After a long time have I come across such a piece of literature. Besides being funny, this poem makes one wonder how something so simply written can be so potent as to grab one's attention, then their perception and consequently their imagination.
Short, captivating and enjoyable. I very much liked this genre. Thanks for sharing, mate.

I chuckled at this for some time, the idea that wives will stop buying shoes is delicious! The reversal of the conflict and hostilities, the binary oppositions that serve no purpose other than their own are highlighted with contempt and loathing for the suffering they cause. What if ...?

That's a wonderful poem ! Love the way you play with reality, also the way you completely changed it shows both a great wisdom of current facts and an even greater sense of irony.
That was one of my favourite poems so far, not kidding, reminds me of Auden.

Your irony is enjoyable- it really puts emphasis on reality and desired fantasies in our ideal worlds.

I love your last stanza. Even though our poetry may not effect many of our readers, it can still affect us since we know we put genuine effort into it.

Humourous and just maybe possible, but I think you took it one step too far,
I can never see facebook discovering that friends are real people........
Apart from that,,, who knows....
