at dark thirty

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

“schone” by jantina peperkamp

sanguine syllables play
in a field just out of my reach

not quite forming a poem yet
they wave at me - -
beckoning me to join them
knowing my zealous appetite
will peak at the chance
of having them at my
beck and call

ah, but as I approach
the scene manifests itself
a picket sign
emblazoned with your name
and countenance
is held by each unobliging word

they begin to hum
the mantra of you
they are staging a sit in!
fully realizing this will
render my fingers
woefully inadequate

so mark it on your calendar
yes, that’s right
the one you always kept
in your pocket
to protect your heart - -
at dark thirty this morning
my creativity ceded power
to the emotive verse of you

There are those that hold a special place in our heart and we struggle to find the words that will explain a feeling - unexplainable....and yet, Lydi - you always manage to find the words that curl right up in the readers heart. You are amazing.

Ahh damn Lydi. You just expressed what i was going through. Your thoughts blocked my poetic mind that even though i am inspired by sanguine syllables your name holds a picket sign. A really brilliant piece of poetry. Sometimes distractions ain't good. How i love that you have very well expressed what i felt. Kudos indeed to you :) love and wishes.

Wow ! I really lack to words to give much more of a review than "Wow !". Your grasp of the language and all the poetic imagery in this make it a brilliant piece. Bravo. ~Jim

Jim, thank you so much for this review. Hope all is well with you. Lydi**
For me, a poet is the most romantic being in the universe! Once he/she feels that urge to express, a very romantic piece will be created soon...but sometimes there is still another thing that might control...
Great piece!

Dh, I so appreciate your warm review. Lydi**
dear Lydi.... as I swim around in my
letters of gold fish... I look for crumbs
of your poetry... as the fountain gives me
Peace until you return well versed and
waxing poetic. truly... Pat
