the last word

the last word

A Poem by Lydia Shutter
"

a poem i wrote back in 2006 that is still relevant now.

The last word....I have heard
is what some folks desire

For it they’ll fight...with all their might
filled with brimstone and much fire

But far more smart....tis an ancient art
to let it peacefully ride
To simply ignore....avoid the war
till unfriendly sparks subside

Yes, last, not first...truly is the worst
contrary to popular belief
Seal your lips....come to grips
to achieve the greatest relief.

Only you could have delivered a sensible message in such a witty and elegant way. yes, this is absolutely relevant, even now, and until humans walk the earth. ah, if only people knew the true value of shutting up. lol. you have the wisdom of the sages, and the skill of all poets combined. Love this!

Yes, the last word junkies, you just know they can start wars.
Usually find as they're still mouthing off, someone's completing the job.

Indeed. It seems too many people just cannot let fires burn themselves out. Your wisdom, as well as your rhyming prowess shine through. ~Jim

Lydi besides being a poet, you also write philosophy... whoa... it is true, far too many just want to "win", have the last word.. they talk over people, never even hearing yet alone understanding what others are saying... how did we go from those early years of our youth when we were taught "sharing" (of toys and yes ideas) to this madness of everything to win???? seems like we understood more back then and became more stupid as we aged... of course there are some who have thankfully reverted to their childhood and have relearned how to listen!!! and of course to listen is to do so with your mouth shut!!! good philosophy Lydi and dare I say, you were pretty damn smart 10 years ago too!! ;0) but I also suspect you have the heart of a 4 year old... yes, it's a "nice" one...

This is sooooo relevant, always relevant . . . I think many TV reality shows model yelling & ranting as if it were the number one problem solver! Not to mention the prez race which is doing quite a bit of that, too! Your message is perfectly & peacefully stated to convey a possibility I wish many people would consider!

Most sensible thing I have heard in a while dear Lydi :) I am not one to try and have the last word, was raised around that too much myself so I understand this :)

Wow, I believe this is the first time I've ever read a rhyme from you! Funny, how things from years past are still relevant today. I heard a song by Aerosmith, "Living On the Edge" the other day, and I googled it because I couldn't believe how pertinent the lines were.

Makes you wonder about ten or twenty years from now if it'll be the same! Good piece, Lydi!

You are welcome dear Lydia.
most times, i will just say "touche" and let it ride...

wow, sealing the lips is often best....

your poem reminds me of BTO...
"would you fly if i told you that i lied, would you say good bye or would you let it ride"

love the next to last line, significantly.
