Doublet

Doublet

A Poem by Margaret Marie Hubbard

a mask
a charade
a facade of great proportion
you hide behind such grandiose contortion

alone
abandoned
a barren heart self annihilated
a tattered genius so complicated

warmth
fear
a nexus combining my heart
an amalgam driven apart

loss
gain
forever adjoined doublet
enduringly kept at bay

Pros: I miss seeing poems like these, poems with an immense vocabulary and can express their ideas in few lines and words. I like the brevity of this one. It keeps things to the point and keeps us focused without getting off-track.

Cons: None.

Overall: A good poem that was a breath of fresh air, despite the twinge of sorrow it leaves behind.

I like that you start with things in common - mask charade / alone abandoned. And then it changes to opposites that fit well together - warmth fear / loss gain. I love the message in this and may just share this with a few that I know. Nice work.

The wording here is minimalist, and very direct. In places, slightly cryptic, perhaps? The structure and ryhme pattern are both fine (and consistent). Thankyou, Margaret!

Your words clearly express what the feeling is in this poem. It is very well written.

The warmth fear combo is a nice mixture. usually warmth is placed with a feeling is grace and here its that ol hot fear that stamps the heart alive.
This can be seen as anyone. We all have the right mask for the right occasion.

Well done in fewer words than most with a louder message

bravo

Starting the poem with one word is nice and a good benefit. I like the mirror affect you added.
Very nice, well written.
