Note to Self

Note to Self

A Story by Mari Baptiste

Finish college
Get a posh career
Become part of the rich and over sheltered society
Travel the world
Get married to someone equally rich and prestigious
Have beautiful children

Is that all I'm really destined for?

No. This is not what I want.

I want to be a woman of change

To make a difference
To sacrifice for my country
To use my voice for the Filipino people
To write to bring justice

I refuse to go with the current
But I will not go against it either

I will step out of the waters
As my predecessors have
And continue down the path
That they had paved

I will continue their fight for truth
Their fight for honest media

So when asked
"Of all the courses, why journalism? It's so corrupt now."

My answer remains the same
"If our generation won't fix it, then who will?"

We need to start somewhere, right?
One person at a time.

This is brilliant! Thanks to emmajoy for read requesting me . . . she knew I would love this! The construction is well-done, with the boring goals listed first, then breaking into your authentic voice to say what really matters. I hate that we old folks have handed you young ones a busted-up world, but it helps me feel better knowing there are many of you who feel this way, that it's more important to be a helpful healing contributor, rather than selfishly going for material gain. You've worded this in a powerful way & I'm very moved by your determination to make a difference. Our broken world needs lots of you who feel this way! (((HUGS))) fondly, Margie

This well done. Personally, I don't like most of the national media. Whatever happened to a reporter being objective ?? Why do news reporters have to take sides? Why not just report the news? Why is there so much negativity in news reporting?

I hope you become part of the solution.

A powerful message that deserves all applause. We must be vigilant against those fakers and corrupt politicians who make our present and future according to their whims and desires. We need to define our destiny as individuals, people and nation and do our part. Excellent.

One person can create a movement that can be turn into a hurricane of hope. To create change. Hard work and strong mind and heart. Our world need to stop. We must re-think the worldly goals and learn. Protect nature and every life had value. Thank you Mari for sharing the outstanding poetry.

This is awesome and bold! When you fight for truth, you know it's worth fighting for. The theme is amazing, and you build up the energy until it is specific and then broaden it out to all of us.

Mabuti para sa iyo - maging malakas, determinative at higit sa lahat mananatiling totoo sa iyong sariling katangian :-)

Brava, brilliant!

I wish you success in what might be a fight but if your determination is as strongly stated as your words, you can achieve wonders. Go for it... with the pride you obviously have.
