Closest

Closest

A Poem by R. Ellison
"

For those closest to me, a first attempt, in a while, at a sonnet.

"

This life where you have lived and overcome

The difficulties thrown at you thus far

With friends you have made, gaining help from some

And never needing to swim far from shore.

Yet as you grow, things grow more difficult

Friends will move away, priorities change

And you learn to listen to what's heart-felt.

That which is new and is often found strange

Can never be learned in but a moment.

Some things take a lifetime to understand

Some needing forvigeness or atonement.

Yet in the end, there you are, hand in hand

Realizing that those who have stayed with you

Are those whom you can rely and turn to.
