A Ladies Man

A Ladies Man

A Poem by Neville
"

Inspired long ago by the great Leonard Cohen's 'Death of a Ladies Man' who I was lucky enough to have seen several times..

"

A Ladies Man

I used to be

Such a ladies man

But in the end

It would have been

The death of me

So I did turn instead

Toward my

Secret plan

And gave you

The very best of me

And you did take

That gift and you did

Breathe it in

And you did

Hold it fast

And you did

Lock it in

Yes I used to be

Such a ladies man

But in the end

You would have been

The very death of me

I love Cohen, all the smoke and sultry bass. This hits those low and dusty notes just like the songs. Makes me want to sit in a corner, smoke and hit a Makers Mark, up.

You aint all bad then.. make a space for me..
These words would make good lyrics Neville. I can imagine Leonard Cohen singing them in his gravelly voice and mournful tone. My sister adored him, but I was more into Dylan. Both of them I consider poets. I don't know that album, maybe I will go and check it out. Spreading yourself thinly will never pay the dividends that a one to one relationship can have (in my opinion), but then they don't always work out either. You take your chances and hope for the best. Good evening Neville.
