The Workplace

The Workplace

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

Happiness breeds success, enhances performance and delivers results!

"

The Workplace

Closed shop mentality,

a union of minds,

top down,

the austere captains

deliver for shareholders

or government.

And they are

bent upon destruction

as bullying ravages

the worker bees.

But it now seems

a spectator sport.

No one there

cheering on

the courageous,

as Human Resources

capitulate to capitalism.

Stress, a prerequisite

to control.

A hidden disease

with no cure

and little hope.

Colleagues melt away

under their desks

turning a blind eye to

the beatings.

The Jackboots

a symbol

of powerful men

with no compulsion,

who release odourless

chemicals

to kill all resistance.

The dole queue looms

like a gas chamber

and survival is paramount.

So suffering continues

under the smoke screen

of 'Indian Head Massage'

and healthy eating,

oh and reducing alcohol

intake,

the only way to numb

the pain,

as the ambitious

slaughter all

before them

in the name of targets.

I understand this poem. I work retail. Few people are happy and they love to complain. I like the flow of thoughts leading to honest ending. Thank you John for sharing your amazing poetry and thoughts.

the king bees and queen bees get all the money and then kill each other off...the worker bees stay poor but buzzing right along.

i am more the optimist most times but the voice of "The Workplace" is loud and clear .. i see the same evils and good throughout all "levels" of economic living ...i hold out hope for anyone can break out of their particular living situation ...many examples even in just my own sphere of experiences...your poem is a strong voice and one that has many constituents ,,, nice to see you posting anew sir ...
