I thought i needed you

A simple poem

I thought I needed you,

to make me strong,

to hold back the loneliness and pain,

that I am drowning in,

I look at my life and see,

That I am free,

that I am strong and that I didn't need you,

that I could stand without falling,

and walk my new path,

I thought I needed you to hold back the tears,

to be my shield,

to lock myself away,

but that's no longer true,

my heart is strong and I can fight the pain away,

I can stand up strong,

I can wash away the tears of strain,

I thought I needed you,

I thought that you'd keep away the pain,

but that's not true, you just brought more,

I wipe away my tears and stand strong,

cos I didn't need you after all,I never did,

I am strong, for my strength is my own,

I no longer need a shield,

I no longer have to hide in my shell of loneliness,

I can fight away the pain, I never needed you
