The Gift

The Gift

A Poem by Zeitgeist Manifesto

Today....

I walked past
a man standing
on the curb
with two buckets

Full
of flowers

And for reasons
unknown to myself

I purchased...

The bouquet ...

I never had
the courage
to give
you

Whilst deciding
to offer
it as a gift
to the next

Woman
to catch ...

My
Admiring
eye

And as
her smile
released
the light
of the heavens

I refused
her gratitude
and thanked
her instead

(For a little closure)

I liked the conciseness of this one. I liked the clarity of its language. Mostly, though, I liked reading an end of relationship poem on this site that did not adhere to the themes of either "Can't live without you, baby," or "You tore out my heart and stomped that sucker flat."

It's always kindly to recognize a smile and I think the gesture of buying the flowers and then giving them to a stranger is an act of beauty; this says so much in a short poem.
Thanks for sharing

I know you didn't mean to "show off" yourself, but this poem shows the narrator (presumably you) to be an amazing example of what we should all do more of in life, celebrate the hurts by making some sunshine in the present moment. This is precious & flowing & consciousness-probing. So much feeling is hiding in little pockets of these actions, such as the unspoken feeling you must've had toward the flower vendor, wanting to give him some business, then the human connections go on & on. So many times we poets lament the lack of connection in these covid times, but forget to show the world what it looks like to celebrate when we were able to be out there, freely connecting! This is a memorable poem! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Thanks for reading. Good times.
A random gift for a random person. I hope it brightened their day and caused a slight smile to creep up on their lips

I appreciate the visit. thanks.
This little piece tells me quite a bit about the type of person you are. Considerate and thoughtful. There is much joy in giving, even to a stranger. You found some courage.

Beautiful poetry. Simple in format and yet has great depth of feeling and is visual with it.

I am mesmerized by your work. You leave so much up to the imagination and to the reader's own experiences. This touches me personally on many levels, and I love the look and the sound of the piece. Your work reveals a deep understanding of yourself, and an ability to find the smile and or the lesson in life's mysteries. I will return to read more.
