How

How

A Poem by ToriSchrodi

How?

How are you able to see past my smile and see the tears in my eyes?

How are you able to see past my foundation and see…

the cracks in my skin

How are you able to know when to ask”Are you okay?”

How are you able to care?

After I hurt you so long ago.

How are you able to reach down from your great height to pull me up?

How are you able to see that my smile… is fake?

How do you remember who I once was?

When even I don’t remember that person…

You are the only one who can see the bruises on my skin.

From where my monsters have clawed at me…

Dragging me down…

Down…

Down into my own personal hell.

Thank you.

Thank you for remembering who I once was.
For remembering the time when my smile wasn’t fake.

For remembering when I didn’t have to use foundation to hide the hideous cracks in my skin.

Thank you
