Dementia

Dementia

A Poem by Alisa Js
"

inspired by a true person...

"
her mind, bathed with these broken bits
peeking out somewhere from beyond the deep recesses of her once right mind
these bits, stop by at random times
to stay a while and reminisce
she travels back, touching memories sweet
alive once more, she sees and believes...

'Dementia'
Alisa Js,
Our lives are transitory. It is seen regularly in the day to day. I use to work in a nursing home and many of the precious residents were affected by an altered memory. I have my own memories of this time..sometimes painful. The people were precious. Glad you wrote this one.
Blessings,
Kathy

Hello Jacob,

Thank you for your comments.

The mind is such an amazing organ and yes, it is amazing how the elderly can remember things from decades ago like yesterday, and yet not so much for those recent events.

this reminds me a bit of emily dickinson's "i felt a funeral in my brain"

i like how compact it is...makes it sharper, makes it hit harder...

my mom and dad are 90 and 93---still maintaining..

funny how both remember things from way back...but not from yesterday...funny in an odd way...but it happens.

i will get there..but maybe not remember how.

I meant to say this piece was inspired by a real person, someone I've known for almost two years who has Dementia/Alzheimer's and is in the middle stage, and currently progressing to the next stage which is very sad and painful to watch.
