PASSING FADS in LANGUAGE

PASSING FADS in LANGUAGE

A Poem by angel
"

A lament about the passing language 'fads'.

"
I'm amused; a mattress has become
A new thing, a "sleep system".
Don't be upset, and don't feel glum;
Rise up! We can resist 'em.
Push back, be strong, however much
You want to just let go;
Just remember, having such
Terminology can grow!
One day, you could just find that you're
No longer understood;
The old descriptive phrases snore--
You never thought they would.
There's all new, "better" phrasing now;
If only I'd foreseen
That my words would follow 'thee' and 'thou'
With 'cat's meow' and 'keen'.
Each generation has its own
Personalized, special slang.
I find myself cut to the bone
And feeling much past a pang
My generation's 'groovy' and 'fab'
Is no longer relevant. Still, it's my bag,
And youth's opposition is simply a drag...

Don't know how to fix that different fonts in one piece problem; not very computer literate... but this is just a sort of lament to slang gone bye-bye.

Ain't it the truth..so many trendy. Variants in language/slang be it urban .. cyber ..or what have you.. I can't keep up with a lot of it..you touch down on so many terms used....I enjoyed reading your poem..is it still "Hip to be Square"? Haha..nice work Angel

I believe the font difference is adding a new twist to the look of the poem. Its enhancing the view, makes anyone who looks at it want ro read it. More poems

Just put up a new one, this minute. It's called NEVER LOST OR ALONE.
I was told by my English teacher that it is a very dynamic and fluid language. It must grow. Feel free to invent new words of your own whenever you can. Be creative. Be original. Some fads pass and some stick. We still use groovy and fab in college sometimes here. Most interestingly written.

Thought it started somewhere in the eightees with all that break dancing and stuff.
I love slang! Well, not the new crap. Maybe cause my kids laugh at me while I try to use it. Im an eighties kid, but im trying to bring back groovy. Wish me luck. Btw, drag is still used around my place.

I think the slang of yesteryear was a little more authentic and original, but, who am I to say, the new slang seems to sensationalize and justify whereas the old was meant to add a little color. But now that I think of it, it may have not been so different....MARTINIZE IT'!!!! LOL....LOVED THIS PIECE.
