"

Don't fear the ones with their own ways For they may know what we do not

We come into life as innocents

no prejudice upon our soul

Washed clean by a new beginning

not a single debt, nor a toll

We have two choices most of us

codes of fathers we just swallow

Or blaze a path in loneliness

others wonder but don't follow

It is that rare one we may find

who chooses to go his own way

These are the ones we all admire

not for them but us we should pray

Fearless souls unafraid to die

they the ones bucking convention

Who teach us all our life's follies

by adding a new dimension

As life progresses onward

to it's predestined conclusion

We learn then teach the least of us

to see truth not the delusion

Don't fear the ones with their own ways

for they may know what we do not

He who turns toward forgiveness

has discovered what most forgot

Dear Tate,

As you know I was extremely impressed with your poem in a previous version. However this poem now completely blows me away. What a piece of wisdom and so cleanly set down in words. The words flow smoothly and effortlessly reminding us to beware shortsightedness and to expand our vision. It teaches us that others that view the world differently have something to offer us, something beyond our blindspots. A tremendous message.

I so rarely do this, but I'm giving this a 98% rating. As many of my friends know, I have never given a higher rating. No poem can get a 100% rating because no poem is perfect, and if I ever find a 99% poem, I'm sure I'll go blind. Your poem already has me squinting strongly from its brilliance.

My very best regards, and congratulations on an exceptional poem.

Rick

but Tate,,,isn't it human to fear those we don't understand,,,that's why Jesus was crucified,,,a very powerful message delivered,,,those who seek their own truths and search for their gods themselves are truly the blessed ones,,,once again astounishing,,,

It is through our forgiveness that we gain our knowledge. Life is either on or off. Most of us are caught between the two. That being we're either right or wrong, and most often a mixture of the two, which has many different variants to the mix.
Suffice it to say, we are all both right and wrong. But then again, we have to look at the example by which we craft our own model from to have a meter for yea or nea...
Outstanding Talent Tate. I thoroughly enjoyed this one.

Tate,
I echo your other reviewers. We must let our light shine and not dim the lights of others. Very powerful message here.
Beautiful poem:-)

This was really profound.. in a land of critiques and harsh judgement many are born being different. Yet many still hate/fear them for being that way.. whether it be choosing to be gay, cross dressing, mental illnesses and so many other things that go outside the lines and make so many uncomfortable. Clearly those that chose those paths know the path is harder but their mind and hearts will not allow them to go any other way.. they have to be true and not deceiving.. and get bashed and gossiped for it.

We live in a diverse world.. whether it's skin colour.. religion.. gender.. why do the masses care? Forgive those who are different and hope they forgive those as well who have put them down for their numbers do rise against what is normal (I repeat: what is NORMAL).. for the ones truly lacking knowledge are the ones casting stones.. forgive me for saying it but I just had too! I have had friends of all walks and they are no different than anyone else.. but sure go through alot! Great job!

Knowledge and forgiveness are biggies. If we can forgive (forgiving ourselves is the hardest) and if we never cease to seek knowledge and keep open minds we then gain wisdom.

Well written, well said, loved this. ~ Helena
