I don't like people...

Paper and pen,

How I love what you bring:

A clean sheet of new beginnings.

Not like these people

Who bring heart racing grief,

The anxiety and fear,

The infuriating discomfort.

Paper and pen,

How I love your silence.

You listen to my every word.

Not like these people

Who talk only of themselves,

Their pain and their pleasure

The “Me! Me! Me!” song that I hate.

Paper and pen,

How I love your devotion.

You’re always nearby when I call.

Not like these people

Whose presence is sporadic,

Making appearances when I’m already down,

Laughing as they kick me repeatedly.

Paper and pen,

I’m so glad we're friends.

There’s no way you would ever desert me.

Okay, so I really love the repetition and I really like the concept. It made the poem enjoyable and relatable.

Something to possibly-if you want-work on. The stanzas where you say "not like these people" could really benefit with more imagery. More showing what you're telling or trying to say. It may mean the stanzas or poem is longer but that means more of the latter stuff that make the poem flow and intriguingly relatable to read.

Very cool. I can understand you for one reason. I have a second pillow that I love to put on top of me or under my legs when I sleep or hug and you know it never, ever, ever says no! or stay away, or don't hug me, etc. etc. it's just so very cool. I do understand and very nice write!

Whenever the heart finds such titles which decorate the literature with deep insights, the spirit itself gets rolled down ov`r the creative pages. Loved the title; the content you`ve have used in this post; the way you wrote this post, & all the virtue that you`ve pondered to this write`s all what I appreciate.

Yes, a pen & paper both are friend of a writer .. even they`re a friend of each other, which makes life a better living... staying away of entangled world.

always there for us no matter what...when all others let us down...the muse stays, and we get to write.

WOW, I never realized that paper and pen were (for us as writers) unconditional friends. Your poem brings to my a little nostalgic feeling, since indeed was paper and pen the ones who heard my problems wen I was down. And no matter if it was with a poem, diary or story shape, it was always there to listen to me.
I also liked the "Not like these people" lines. How many times we've faced fake people? Countless for me...
If only our friends were as true as our paper and pen, we can't find so many persons like those old friends for sure.
