Words

A Poem by Briana O'Connor
"

I would rather be punched :D

"

Why leave a mark

On someone’s heart

With daggers they cannot remove?

Why leave a scar

On someone’s heart

That no cream can repair?

Why spark a fire

In someone’s mind

That no substance can put out?

Why raise a demon

In someone’s mind

That ear plugs can’t even mute?

Why spew these words

To someone’s face

That cannot be erased?

Why type these letters

To someone’s screen

That ‘delete’ cannot remove?

Why speak what shouldn’t be spoken?

Why shatter for the sake of breaking?

Why wound the being before you?

Why word a phrase of pain?

Why use the gift of speaking,

In a lack of self control,

To batter the already battered soul?

The issues you present with this presentation...speaks volume...as you give the reader each question and get in depth with the message your conveying in the transition of this...words can be a powerful tool or otherwise used if not for their intended meaning...thanks for sharing this work...

This is beautifully done! Words can hurt more than a physical hit.

Constructive I can be. But there is no criticising this poem in my opinion!
It's worded beautifully and calls to mind a quandary that all of us have to deal with at multiple points in our lives.
The structure is fantastic and it really speaks to me as a poem in general.
Well done! ^_^

It's my pleasure, truly ^_^
Why indeed.

For someone that has gone through life asking that same question your piece here resonates with me on so many levels. The sad truth is there are people out there that prey on the weak and feel power when they throw stones, call names, write malicious mail etc. The understanding behind all of this is that such behaviour leaves a mark, an imprint that simply cannot be erased and we the victims are tormented by these happenings where as the givers may not be.
