Painful Times

Painful Times

A Poem by Ashley Lytle

How can I explain

The utter frustration that I feel

The pain and the suffering

The bad days among good things

When I'm grasping this idea

Of the harm that they've caused

When my mind can't comprehend

The feelings that I feel

And all I know is the pain

The pain of the present day

And the pain that haunts my past

While I dread the pain of the future

For haven't I been hurt enough

Haven't I been torn down already

But it's never ending

The worst part is

They do not understand

They don't know

About the suffering that they've caused

The tears they're behind

Or the mentality that they've created

For it's because of them

I see no worth in myself

For it's because of them

I feel alone in this world

For it's because of them

That I continue to suffer

I'm told it's my fault

That I've done something wrong

But then I'm told they're liars

And good old fashion bullies

Who just can't grasp

Just what they are doing

All the harm that they're causing

For it was not meant

At least they claim

For it was an accident

Nothing but a joke

But tell me please

How something that creates pain

That causes tears to continuously fall

Can be so okay

Isn't there something wrong here?

I'm told to let it go

To stop letting it control me

But it isn't so easy

For they were my family

My confidants

The people that I trusted most

This repetition of events

It has scarred my inner thoughts

Infecting them with their wicked desires

Still I will fight

To escape their grasps

I will struggle to climb up the dark hole

The dark hole they threw me in

And with hands of warmth

I'll be pulled up

By those who truly shine

Lighting up the world

The world consumed by darkness

It seems a little too long, maybe because it's all in one part. You could try putting a few empty lines, not just to make it more readable, but it also affect the mood if you put them to the right places. Overall it's a good poem, there's a strong feeling in it, and I can relate. I especially like the last lines, it's so beautifully written, and it ends the poem with a perfect mood. Good job!

This is beautifully written and thought out. I'm so sad about how many people are posting poems about that tragic event, but I'm glad they have an outlet for it with their writing. Keep it up. This was great.
