Put this in your Writer's Block and Smoke it

Put this in your Writer's Block and Smoke it

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Put this in your Writer's Block and Smoke it

inducted into the bad poets Hall of Fame

i gave my acceptance speech

a long, long soliloquy

in ode form

which was really poor form

because everyone

was sleeping or weeping

or keeping one eye on the door

hoping there wouldn't be much more

and the room soon realized

why i had garnered enough votes

as my voice began to bloat

with less than sublime rhyme

which in time became accursed free verse

which just got worse

as i read another bad poem

and another and another and yet another

weak, bleak, "pat on the back seeking"

spew of proverbial, verbal self-indulgence

and to think,

you indulged me to read this

and so in closing,

thank you all very much for this honor

as i dishonor you,

with just one more little

poem

before you go home

even though in your mind

you're already there--- hours ago.

Jacob,
I felt like this poem was a great word to the many ups and downs we may feel as we express our thoughts on page. Who knows if it will be liked? Who knows if any one reading will understand. So it's nice when something is received well but we write what we think, feel, experience because it is who we are at that time. Thanks for your own honest words.
Bless ya!
Kathy

Wait a second. What happened? Dozed off for a bit, and I must have missed something. I didn't win? Bloody hell. What do you mean it was six months ago? Grumble....

I can only try my friend!
I wonder if the writer is self-depricating in this piece? I don't know if he is in praise of free verse, or traditional rhyme and form, or mocking it.
Nonetheless, this is my favourite piece of his. It's remarkable.
If the writer would answer these questions, I'd be grateful.
Salute,
Dalton

Badly amazing! Has such an irked presence, dash of arrogance and a clear mind. Very fine and interesting.

Thank you and you're welcome :)
I try to make myself believe that no poetry is "bad", but rather in the eye of the beholder... then I read some of my own verse and realize I am fooling myself! Even when you write of bad poems, your wit and word skill shine, Jacob!

Why criticize anyone"s writing? No one forces anyone to read it or review it. I happen to like your witty, clever, metaphoric atmosphere, Jacob. Quite ingenious.

Very nice use of rhyme within the lines Jacob, although I can never picture you accepting such an award. :)
