verbal irony

verbal irony

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

verbal irony

how is it poetic justice

when the guilty words go free

then blackmail the artist

to paint nothing but heartache

and the innocent words of mirth

are locked in the poet's mind

to serve a life sentence.

How very true Jacob. Life has a way of confining us into labels and boxes that we fit into as we travel through life and the words we hold back are a symptom of that, becoming what others label us and less and less capable of unleashing what we once would never have gave a second thought about.
Beautiful write.

Those words, the guilty as you say, the one who cause the pen to craft heartache I think come from that place deep inside we'd just as soon erase. I could feel this one Jacob.

perhaps making poetry out of it makes it...easier to be with? I mean, it's there, so why not turn it into art...make something beautiful out of it...touch people with it, which you do, and quite well btw :)

Have you heard the song Wordy Rapping hood by Tom Tom Club? It is simply a song about all the connotations and implications of words. This reminds of that song. Days when our brains say "No your not writing that, your going to write this!" Are days you know you have a fight on your hands. Keep fighting the good fight J.

The content you provide is interesting. I think many writers can relate to that tumult in your head at times that forces one to write things down, even unpleasant ones. I like to say: Words become alive and are incontrollable then. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

You're welcome :)
Guilty words....the ones that get away and we search for them. Even a posse could not find them again. They show they faces for just a moment and we KNOW they would be perfect in a poem and then, POP, they vanish into thin air. We always think the words we write don't measure up to THOSE words. Absolutely. Good one. Lydi**
