melodies in the dust

melodies in the dust

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

melodies in the dust

the composer decomposes
wretched scent of unfinished symphonies
the notes rotting in his mind before reaching accord
with his intentions

finicky follies of shaky strings
woodwinds with bark of brevity
and gusts of
irrelevant synapses in suffrage
there are no melodies on which to vote

septic copyrights,
solos sent packing in midnight reverie
bones reveal brazen scars
in sickly tone

the music plays on without him
as he is buried in his orchestra's pit
his skeletal fingers still going through the motion

of writing movements in the time
he thought he had left.

As most of us do, j., we struggle on, not knowing when the final chord will come crashing down, like the great ending of 'A Day in the Life' reverberating even now in the mind. Hopefully some of what we do will survive us and some day, long down the road, someone may stumble on our words and say 's**t, that guy was good."
As for this...'s**t, that guy is good.'

thank you for your kind review, Ted,

This is very powerful! I was so carried away by your stunning word crafting, contrasting with the turbulent journey of your storyline. Hope you're enjoying your holiday season with a smile (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

For me, this brings to mind the relationships and actions in our lives we thought we left behind but we keep rehashing and reliving.

".....And so from hour to hour, we ripe and ripe
Then from hour to hour we rot and rot.....".
( Shakespeare, " As you like it")
Your words brought my school days back to me ,Jacob, when we "ambled" through the experience failing to see the final outcome.

This has a feel of the rational part of the brain telling that part of the brain that thibks time is never ending, to get a grip of itsel...and the irrational part listening.
We all think there will be many more tomorrows, but some of us will be wrong, and all of us will be left with our own unfinished symphonies. I'll get right onto mine, tomorrow. :)

makes me think of unfinished business and not enough time for all we want to do

There are many living the illusion that it never ends until it ends and they wonder where t all went.
Writing masterpieces seem to be your tune.

A lesson maybe in that life is short and any offerings must be given before the final decline slides in.

"woodwinds with bark of brevity" love that line , i can almost hear a clarinet coughing :)

lol, i had to google Ludens to see what it meant :)
Great visions and insight held inside this nicely demonstrated dramatic, haunting tale of a composer and his music.
