Hummingbirds

Hummingbirds

A Poem by Jack...
"

A love poem upon many tiny wings

"

Hummingbirds

A hummingbird in magic flight

Appears to you this summer night

Turquoise shades against the sky

A' shimmer as it flutters by

The nectar of its beauty sings

Through rapid dance of tiny wings

This random path of mystery

With brilliant balanced harmony

Gracefully it hovers there

In front of you atop the air

Hold out your arm and it will land

Upon the softness of your hand

For you see, this little friend

Is here for me, so I may send

All the love I have for you

To carry on its wings so true

Though too small, this bird you see

To carry all the love from me

I came up with a different course

I need to double up the source

So to the skies I sent out word

To find another hummingbird

It soon arrived without delay

To get its mission underway

I told it of the plan I laid

I should have known, needless to say

Still these two were way too small

This duo could not carry all

So I did what I had to do

To send out all my love to you

I pulled from here, I took from there

I gathered up from everywhere

I finally had enough support

So all my love I could export

That’s why you’ll witness on this night

A thousand hummingbirds in flight

For I have so much love for you

One little bird just wouldn’t do

It took the many birds above

In flight to bring you all my love

I did , your welcome
I like the "addition" you made to this familiar concept. A tender and fanciful thought that is still believable in translation.
Well done Jack...

Thank you, "addition" and "translation", am I missing something?

Not at all Jack. This idea and this feeling are very common in poetic writing. Your poem was fresh.. read more

Thanks, I actually wrote this for my mother.
Hummingbirds were my Grandmother's favorite. When I was very young I got her a necklace with one painted on the front of a piece of Myrtle Wood. She passed away soon after. This Christmas I was given a stained glass hummingbird to place in my bedroom window. As I was telling the rest of our family about some of the gifts we had already received with the stained glass being one of them, a hummingbird appeared on the back porch. We all shared a holy moment. This brings me to this poem. I feel like this could be the ultimate communication from my Grandma in The Heavens... Pure Love... Thank you.

Thank you, I wrote this for my Mother who lives 1800 miles away from me.
THis is sweet and funny and lovely altogether. Your rhyming and your images are excellent.
I have one suggestion

"Though too small was this bird you see" would sound better, I think, as "Too small was this bird you see..."
