Then, Now

Then, Now

A Poem by Joshua David Dary
"

Past, Present.

"
Then, I had bleach-blonde hair.
Now, my hair is dirty-blonde.

Then, I always watched cartoons.
Now, I hardly ever watch TV.

Then, I hated chores.

Now, I do them, just so they'll get done.

Then, I thought school was tough.
Now, I realize how easy it was.

Then, I wanted to be an adult.
Now, I wish I could be forever young.

Then, I hoped to be popular.
Now, I don't care much what people think of me.

Then, I was nervous as hell around pretty women.
Now, I can actually speak.

Then, I only thought about skin.
Now, I see what's in their souls, too.

Then, I was a sneaky little player.
Now, I don't even play the game.

Then, hell made me weak.
Now, I'm stronger than ever.

Then, I didn't know what "love" was.
Now, I've got a pretty damn good idea.

Then, I was a little, bratty, immature child.
I've grown up.

Now here is my take, Crinthians have shed light on those past thoughts. As far as being the note, I hope that aint me. I liked this and it is a nice reminder of all of us.

Wow, I really like this. The two line statements, the first of the past, the second, an unapologetic and proud declaration of change, are the strength of this poem. The 180 degree shift from the first line to the second's rejection of youth's misconceptions drills the point home to the reader that this man has grown up. Bravo.

I like how you captured all the aspects of being a child and being an adult. I also like how you color-coded the differences. This really is a neat poem.
