About Me

I'm a tough old broad who spent almost 30 years at Ma Bell, and that is high level training for surviving in the jungle. Thank you for your patience.
I am retired from the Unix and Linux world, but writing has been a lifelong passion. A few of my poems have been in analogies, school literary magazines and newspapers. I write free form and sometimes use Japanese structures but of course, my work is not true to Japanese context. I have time now to do what I want rather than attend rows of snarky servers.
When I review work on here, I want to encourage writers. I do not review lightly or with a lack of sensitivity. When I see work that has promise, I dig a little deeper. But none of what I say in a review is meant to diminish or hurt a writer and his/her work. Please keep that in mind if you ask me to read. I consider it a privilege to be requested to read someone's work.

10/27/2013 -- To all: I have turned off read requests for a bit because I was swamped. I need the time to devote to my own writing, and it is unfair to drag my feet so on reviews. I have several projects that are almost finished, and one monumentally important one that needs dedicated focus. I'll pop in now and then and try to catch up on my backlog. I am on Twitter @2minichinz -- tumblr

take care all.

Today in the new issue of Literary Orphans, three of my poems appear. I wanted to share it with all the great people on WC.

another great article about authors who have managed to be decent, honorable people in addition to being great writers

This is a really good article on self-publishing that I read this morning. It is very encouraging for those of us anxious to see our work in print.

I made over 1000 points the last two days reading and reviewing! Ain't I an accommodating old broad? Now what I'm wondering is what can I get with these 2000+ points? Are they good at Starbucks? Will they attract folks to read my work? Or are they just a useless token of hours spent reading others' work and trying to give as insightful reviews as possible?

hummph

I was a little rough on a few of you. Proof your work, for God's sake! You may be here pretending to be a writer, but your work speaks louder than any self-aggrandizing bio. If you truly respect the readers and reviewers, you will act like a grown-up and prepare your work to the best of your ability, if you have any.

Editors don't like lazy writers, and they will show no mercy to NEW lazy writers. Maybe my talent and my rants are dismissed as drivel from an old woman, but I had articles published in a national magazine (Seventeen), and I know how that stiletto blue pencil of the editors can cut you down to size.

So take a good look in the mirror, kids, and a really good look at your work. I haven't read any T.S. Eliot or Ernest Hemingway or Emily Dickinson here yet. I have read some excellent work, some promising work. But gathering all the reads and reviews doesn't make you a good writer. And neither does 2000+ points.

I have changed my username to annie lee because a kind fellow writer advised me that copyright protection was not provided to avatars. So I hope I won't get lost in the whirlwinds of change.
