looking back through the years

is like looking at distant mountains in the desert.

heat ripples your vision

like a filter

softening the rough edges

hiding the sharp blades of regret.

and the mountains somehow don't seem as high and treacherous to climb than then did at the time...

we think things were easier then....but maybe they weren't---retrospect is always kinder.
