merriment at the ball

merriment at the ball

A Poem by joshua deathdealer

"
The occupants jostled around in the carriage
as it careened down the winding cobblestones
sounds of light laughter carried them to the ball
soon they would be floating across smokeless
stretches of overdone rooms and endless cliche
piano chords striking notes in the imagination

Arriving, her and host strode into the thrive
nods of introductions and bows of curtsy
graced their entrance to the grand ole hall
articulating discussions blended with the tunes
she noticed him when he entered into the room
his bright eyes and the curly brown lock on his head
accompanying his gentle yet assertive deposition
advancing towards him, she held up her hand
twas the custom invitation to a reciprocal dance

                   her petticoats sway at the

                                                     hands of this admirable pursuer

                               matching his move for move

                                                              circling the wonder of it

My goodness, I can't believe what I'm reading... Victorian times, at their best, worded by you...
I swooned away by the gift of your pen, and your rich imagination of mind traveling...
The dance, was as soft as your words do the Waltz... I'm in awe... x

Oh that was a lovely century, i love the sights of pictures with the balls, all the lovely dresses, ornate looks... fancy and busy... and yet just fun, and a great lovely dance room. Hmm i love this write, the imagery is so nice, makes me want to go to a masquerade ball of some sort.

Outstanding! The flow of your words are true and I've been asking myself that question as well but if you think about it, if we were born in any other century there would ignorance just as now but it would be nice.

This poem is so simple but the description of the ball and the people arriving along with that mystery with the man is quite the intrigue.

" her petticoats sway at the
hand of this admirable pursuer
matching move for move
circling the wonder of it"

Just an outstanding poem.

Like it! super picture you've presented in words, could be something from a Bronte novel. I enjoy the poetry of the romantics, their era this work.

Yeah, and your poetry reads like it as well. This is an excellent piece, Josh. I feel like I'm there, watching the waltz unfold.
