VW

A Poem by john l smith
"

Van

"

Bought myself an old VW van

I thought it could be a plan

I’d bought it from an anchorman

Who’d imported it from Japan

As it beat its feet upon the street

It kept us cold with lack of heat

And toiled upon the hot asphalt

With a powerplant at near halt

No monster this, a puddy tat

Not much meat but lots of fat

And tho’ it always air-cooled tried

I’m glad to say it finally died

While I respect the romance of these old crates, I have a next-door neighbor with a gorgeous turquoise one that he cranks every few months & I see what a hassle it is to keep it running. I have another friend with a well-restored VW Bus painted in colors of baseball team SF Giants, including logo in front circle. So much mystique among old California hippies, especially. I love how you bust up the mystique! *wink! wink!* Fondly, Margie
