Steadily Maintain

Steadily Maintain

A Poem by James Takeo Panton

I wish to be a Buddhist monk

And sit beneath a mountain
Words spring forth on quiet lips
And flow out like a fountain
I strive to be a Superman
And find my strength in me
And do my best to do my part
For everyone to see
I long to live the simple life
Meditation, day by day
Enjoy simplicity in menial tasks
Until my hair grows grey
I dream to live as a hermit
Distant and apart
Yet never far from those I love
And always close at heart
I wish to live an adventurer’s life
And explore everything I see
And only to see that everyone
Is very much like me

Yet all I see and all I know
Is full of worry and of doubt
It gives me pains to feel this way
And makes me want to shout
But I endure and carry on
And steadily maintain
And when I fall, I get back up
And try it once again
Thirty-seven years I have wandered
Yet it always seems the same
Gone and there and back again
To places I reclaim
But dreams I have, they still are there
From me, they are not gone

They are what I know, and what I am

And they always carry on

This is absolutely beautiful. Astounding imagery, this piece paints the most lovely picture, it is inspirational and it takes a quite stunning poetic journey. I love the story, I love the feelings put into it, it really makes the reader feel so many different emotions through-out.

I dream to live as a hermit

And always close at heart

This stanza for me makes that transition from dreamer to person, it let's you connect to the author who's now showing how he can dream but still remember the things that are important to him, and dear to his heart. I was particularly touched here.

The last two lines are perfect. Love the emphasis with the "and", very true statement there. Nice write, thanks for sharing.

This reminds me of cowboy poetry...an interesting look through your eyes, and your heart, a deep balanced compassion, very everyday and comforting...Excellent!
