She's So Heavy

She's So Heavy

A Poem by Stephanie

Images stream by as through a kaleidoscope

Ever colorful

Penetrated by deep disturbance

An internal pain beats in her chest

It was a harmless strawberry at first

Turned into a grenade…

The juices secreted transform to blood

Splattering a vast battleground

Soldiers lay defeated

Their life pooling around them with each passing second

Light leaves their eyes

Soon becoming nothing but empty wastelands.

She’s so heavy.

Images turn into thoughts that weigh on her soul

An almost indescribable feeling

Cutting her down to size

And it’s all she needs to see that face

To remind her why she goes through it all.

She’s so heavy.

An interesting riff on the old "He ain't heavy, he's my brother".

you have a very strong language... I think you have the talent to move into more serious publication sites, like online magazines.

This poem hits me in a very personal place at this point in my life.
"And it’s all she needs to see that face
To remind her why she goes through it all.
She’s so heavy."

You speak the words of my soul here.
Lovely read.

The heart heavy within, beating in pain and memory and ready to burst.

Your imagery is both visually stunning and emotionally moving... the colors and feeling of it all grips in and holds on tight. There is that heaviness that seemingly nothing can lift.. how it overwhelms us.

Was this by any chance inspired by the movie, "Across the Universe"? Almost all of the images in your poem (which are incredible, btw) remind me of the film. If so, it's a brilliant mingling of imagery and personal angst. Well done!

The smallest rumor can cause astronomical damage to someone's reputation... words a re a weapon when misused... that is my analogy from this fine poem.
