Shadow of Myself

Shadow of Myself

A Poem by Alice Maria

I feel like a shadow,
Just a shadow in the sea of people,
Watching myself through my own eyes.
Unable to control what I do, what I see,
I'm just a shadow living inside my own body.
Surrounded by the murmuring of the world,
Listening to hum of the crowd,
Trying to fit in while standing out.
I am a shadow unable to get out.
Unable to be myself,
I am a shadow inside my own body.

This poem really exposes how I am sure a lot of people feel about fitting into society. Some don't find themselves, others do/others don a mask just to fit in and deny their true selves to shine through. This piece really makes you think about those who struggle to find themselves and beggars the question of 'how many people are out there just hiding behind the mask?'

I liked this piece.

Mark.

Gee
I have known people over the years who have refused to conform and so are left on the outside looking in but have never known anyone that feels as though they cannot fit in, for whatever reason. Must be frustrating, sad.

Thank you very much. It is very frustrating, but writing has helped me free my frustration.
This poem has a beautiful flow! Your words are so skillfully woven together. Such a sad picture. I pray you take heart. Even shadows can be seen dancing in the sunlight!

I would LOVE to hear this in a poetry reading! The emotion and sadness flows over the reader and allows them to experience the emotion expressed in your piece.

This is a relatable write. We all feel like shadows trapped inside our bodies at sometime of life.. So much so that it feels as if we'd never get out..
I liked the honest show of emotions here. Good work :)
