Rain

Rain

A Poem by Stuart Watson

Rain

Here come the
dark clouds yet again,
Have we not had
enough heavy rain.
The rain it just pours and pours
Comes in underground,
through windows and doors.
The rivers are full to
the brim,
Bursting their banks
oh it looks grim.
Flooding through houses
fields and shops,
Men, women and children
with buckets and mops.
Sandbags are piled everywhere,
To stop the water rising
it just isn't fair.
Moving furniture,
animals too
sometimes not knowing
what to do.
Families leaving
their precious homes,
No time for collecting
food and clothes.
Where do they go they
just don't know,
Waiting for help
to come and show.
People left stranded
for days and days,
Cut off by water,
mud and sludge,
Waiting for Police,
Army and other help,
so they can budge.
When will this end
this pouring rain,
So we can return to
normal again .
As the rain continues
to fall,
More help arrives
on that we can call.
People with clothes,
people with food,
This all helps to
brighten the mood.
The pumps arrive and
start to pump,
Getting rid of the
water from all around,
So that we can step
onto dryer ground.
Out comes the sun
thank goodness for that,
I can now take off my
coat and hat.
