Sorry Ladies!

You already know this....

A man is never a riddle 
Too tough to interpret 
Ladies, what you see 
Is just what you will get!

If he says he cannot stay
Or that he fears to love
He's just not into you
No sign needed from above

If he says he's just a friend 
And may not stick around 
Do believe him and get off
That silly merry-go-round 

'Darkness within' is a ploy
If he wants to keep you at bay
Such ruses he will employ 
If he wants to stay away

Coz when he's head o'er heels
He doesn't play hide n seek
He'll follow you to Mars
Or Venus's tallest peaks

And if for you he cares
He'll camp outside your door
Stuck like gum in your hair
Getting tangled more n more

A man is clear as glass
When he's mad about a dame 
He'll sign and seal the deal
He won't risk playing games 

Trust me, nothing's hidden
No hinting, no manipulating 
What is said is what is meant
No point in complicating 

So if the guy has an excuse
It only means, you're not 'the one'
He's simply toying with you 
Till he finds the 'special someone' 

 

Thus, what you can't edit
Don't you ever ever forget 
Ladies, what you see
Is just what you will get!

Yessss, AJ! Just as Queen Bey sang, if a man was truly into his lady, he would put a ring on it. Those that hesitate are just playing games and passing the time. I have seen the film that inspired your poem, (haven't read the book) and it reminded me of a certain friend of mine who was with a guy for 8 years and he never once spoke of the future. When she finally put the question to him, he went awfully cold, blaming this same darkness and disturbed soul you write of here, and he broke it off 3 weeks later. She wasted 8 years for a player. So your poem, especially giving us ladies a male perspective, is one to be applauded. If he is a time waster, move him on. Fine wisdom, my friend. Your 9 stanzas flow effortlessly here. Good to read you again.

The itch to write this poem was growing and growing as I observed so many louts here talking all these poor ladies for a ride with all their games of darkness and delirium. I thought I'll do my bit for the ladies lol. We don't 'hint', we don't manipulate and we certainly don't back down when its someone we really want to hold on to. Thanks a ton for relating to it.

I am so glad you found your muse AJ .. and she has not let you down it seems ... I am not familiar with the book you mention but know that gentlemen come in all shapes and guises ... and sadly, not all of them honourable ... but, ..... the same can be said for those of the fairer sex ...

I hope these words get the attention they so deserve and will pop back from time to time because I am interested in what the girls have to say on this matter too ....

But also, maybe "the one" isn't for everyone and that doesn't mean people who choose to live a lifestyle against society's grain are bad people. It is a neat poem though and there sure are a lot of dishonest tricksters out there breaking hearts. A younger, more naive, version of myself would have benefited from reading this. I sense that your message will hit home with the right audience.

They are not bad people at all. They are just as confused themselves, needing direction and just not into the girl in question. I know absolutely wonderful men do this from time to time. Yes, when the hormones get to raging and whatnot there can be a lot of carnage along the way! Personally, I don’t like the idea of marriage and monogamy per se. I love people and want them in my life in a natural sense and not in a by law weird way where your devotion is directly tied to monetary means. That’s just me though! And sorry for feeling compelled to comment as I know you’re looking for the ladies’ input.

I won 't disagree with you in the main. If a man wants he will pursue with urgency. I have never had any problem distinguishing the time wasters with the lovestruck. That don' t mean to say men ain' t complex though. There's many areas, I just ponder and scratch my head in puzzlement. Well written my friend and entertaining with it.

This is an awfully familiar theme to me, AJ. Ukrainian men are not known for infallible, undying dedication to their women, mainly because they are heavily out populated by women in this country, so they tend to play the field and never commit. So our ladies tend to be very suspicious of any flattery and sycophantic displays of affection, because we know that most likely its all just for show. Your poem gives us all an insight into the male psyche surrounding relations and commitment, and one that is appreciated by this reader for its style, form and well written content.
