black and white

black and white

A Poem by Akinli Wilde

People don’t hear me when I speak

Why even try? They just ignore me

It’s like I'm black when everything's white,

tinted by the world of night

When they see me they will know,

something's wrong, I’ve got to go

People burning bright as light,

never seeming to touch the night

Though I’m the opposite, black as night,

never seeming to reach the light

Sometimes bullied, sometimes bruised,

nobody cares to step into my shoes

Why does this happen? Why won’t it stop?

I’ve had enough, go back to your home,

where family will fret and get you set,

to go out the next day,

where everything will go its way

Though I have a home as well,

I never want to come out of my shell

I wish I could be like those girls who yell,

all day and night but never fell

Into the dark despair for me,

never breaking free to see, the world of light,

still whirling around me

Wait no, I was wrong

It’s finally night and I have gone,

where no light can follow, no light can flare

Just me left with my everlasting

Despair.
