sidelines

sidelines

A Poem by Akinli Wilde

Why don't they listen?
I'm screaming out
But the world is oblivious.
I wish it would stop,
this constant noise
a background to
everything.
A permanent fixture
without an eject button
It never stops,
no matter what I do.
They don't listen.
"It'll go away,"
they say.
Do they not see?
It can't be stopped.
I fear it is something
I can't control.
But I already know the answer
Don't I?
Perhaps it's humanity
That would make sense.
But who would want that to end?
Everyone loves life,
right?
Wrong.
It's the people on the sidelines,
you don't notice them,
knife to heart, pills to mouth.
Screaming so loud,
hoping someone will see.
No one does.
