A Love, Unloved

A Love, Unloved

A Poem by Allyson Wolfe
"

Written with a new lover in mind.

"
Settling for second best,
this horrid feeling in my chest,
All this is, is just a test,
I only let you do this lest
I forget the touch of men.

Something different? I have allowed
this unloving lust, not that I'm proud
of that you've taken. I have avowed
to declare my love for someone else.

The passion and heat,
the desire; they'll meet!
A love, so wanted, could be so sweet!
Instead you've left me in pure defeat,
a feeling I never hoped to greet...

Settling for second best?
I've always hoped I could confess
to loving you! My dear! So sweet!
Is it something you would have ever guessed?

I remember a time in my life when I was "second best". I thought that if I just tried a little harder, maybe I could pull to the front, but no matter how hard I ran, it was never going to happen. I have found if they make you run a race for their heart, you will never win in the end. Profound words, dear poet. You should never have to settle.

It's the worst feeling, but it happens to us all. Thanks for the review!
