You make me happy even though you cant be here. (Age 7)

You make me happy even though you cant be here. (Age 7)

A Poem by Amelia May
"

I wrote this when I was 7 after the miscarriage of a little girl that would have been my 1st born niece. 12 years later, I still think of her as my niece & I will always have a place in my <3 for her.

"
Poem at age 7:

You had a party before you were even born.
The news of a new baby made everyone happy.
So i was happy.
I was 6.
I am 7 now.
I wrote a story about you while you were still in your mommys tummy.
A lot of people liked it.
We were going to friends.
Your name is pretty.
It is a pretty name because your pretty.
But you dont know what pretty is
Because your not old enough yet.
I am sad that your not here.
And i am sad that your mommy is sad.
your mommy is my sister.
I am really sad that you cant come to your burying party,
Everyone else is sad too.
But we are happy that your with God now.
We love you.
I wrote this when I was crying.
I cried because you wont be here anymore.
Your mommy says you are though
But I miss you.
You will always be my friend.

Author's Note

Amelia May
This was in one of my "Poetry books" from growing up and I felt like I should share it with the world.
Keep in mind, I was 7 so some of the wording like "burying party" are a bit unprofessional.

i really love "burying party". that phrase stands out wonderfully - "unprofessional" would be far from my description of it. Looking at the line as a whole, is the sadness because she can't come to the party, or because she's no longer alive? It's a great dichotomy you've created. Some cultures do try to view death as a celebration - either of a life lived or a passage to better things. Wonderful.

thank you for reading.
I love the concept of a burying party. A celebration of life, though obviously out of context in regards to the pain and loss of a miscarriage. thanks for sharing this child's perspective.

This is so sad and so adorable at the same time. When children open up about such topics you know that the feeling is real, there is no pretense or wonder about its efficacy. Thank you for sharing this with us all. take care...dan

Thanks for reading!
the honest, raw, uncurbed thoughts and emotions of an eight year old girl - this is both beautiful and priceless - I love it for so many reasons - if only adults could both speak and listen the way in which your poem was written .. very nice XX
