A Broken Promise

A Broken Promise

A Chapter by Amelia May
"

wrote this for a friend who is currently hospitalized due to a terminal illness.

"
You said you didn't want a balloon,
Or a stuffed teddy bear by your head.
So I chose this, a form of writing,
And wrote you a poem instead.

We made a promise, many years ago.
And I am sure you remember it well.
We said that if one of us doesn't make it to heaven,
Then we'll both just burn in hell.

Now, honey, I am sorry to inform you,
Of why this promise will surely fail.
You see, you clearly have a pair of angel wings,
And I have the devil's tail.

I am breaking this promise, and I am sorry for that.
But I am surely going to burn in the fiery pit.
And you tried to change me, but I failed to let you.
So I won't drag you down, you don't deserve it.

Our memories are what will always be remembered
And all the pranks we did will last in our minds forever.
So go, get past those pearly gates.
I don't want to see you in hell. Not today. Not ever.

Sleep well, my precious butterfly.
