Valentine

Valentine

A Poem by Riley Mistwood

For my dearest Valentine

To you I give this heart of mine.

I've cut it out so carefully,

for you and all the world to see.

It has a few old scars and stings,

and holes where once there were tiny strings.

I've placed it in this wooden box,

a perfect bow which sits a top this broken heart of mine.

A little note tucked deep inside

"From me to you, my Valentine"

:)
A tender sadness prevails in this
melancholy poem. Fraught with
heartache, but comitted to decision
of the writer. Lost and gone forever,
never to be forgotten, tiny holes where
once were strings------- My heart
bleeds for this girl. Rejoicing in her
fresh, beautiful garden of --- words .
Thank you

Thank you so much for the review
I bleed... It bleeds, with an anguish that was no doubt used to affix that perfect bow atop that broken heart. I think perhaps the note is tucked deep inside for various reasons; none of which are particularly pleasant in my imaginings. This futile gesture of finality, to carve out the engine of life and present it to the one that has damaged it - seemingly beyond repair. This is akin to the mindset of seppuku, just a little higher up on the torso of morbidity; the sacrifice is well-intentioned and noble but the honor is less because hope has been abandoned and in it's place the symbolic defeat of the self-sustaining light of love... love of others, but most importantly, of self. Well-penned, my Queen.
