A Poem by Anand Sehgal

We tend to conform ,
when we grow older.

We like to conform ,
when we are weak.

We choose to conform,
so that  we remain,
so that we never slip.

i find this ironically opposite of me...i have conformed less.

the older i get the more i feel i have the right to be me, to please me and no one else..

i am content with that..

stirred some reaction with this piece...i like a poem that will do that.

Thanks very much , Tia :)
I am with Jacob, I don't conform, I never have, in my quest to be the most real version of myself I know that I can not armour or guard myself ... do I express it out ... each and every day. That is how i live a happy vibrant life and learn more about myself, my fears and what causes them, and then of course to walk through them :) I believe we we just sit in our comfort zone we stoop learning .. and what was that quote 'the minute you stop learning and growing is they day you start dying' and why do I feel like each and every day is just the beginning of life for me ?

well thats just me anyhow ......

thanks a lot dear :)
As you age you see that black and white have melded and the world is actually painted in shades of gray. Reality is a good teacher but it takes awhile for some lessons to sink in. Conformity has a negative connotation for me but as we age we do become more diplomatic by lessons learned the hard way.

Hmm odd I feel differently I think when we are young and want to fit in is when we conform, we don't let 'stuff' get to us as much when we get older. Interesting Anand.

True Anand. People tend to have to change sometimes to adapt to a particular situation .

I believe this is true. Taking a risk, being different, refusing to conform can be frightening - I know it was for me...but as I grow older...what the heck...

Maybe we just like a pasture where the grazing is easier. For myself I have never played well with others and conforming has always been difficult..but you so right in your words.
